Get Over It, Get On with It

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Yes Facebook again is changing its algorithms. It’s not the end of the world ~ unless you only use Facebook for your business marketing solutions (it still may not end your business, but it won’t add to promoting it the way it once did).

I guess I’m not part of the maniacal in-crowd when it comes to operating a social media marketing company. I’ve always thought that social media is a great addition to other types of business marketing and promotion and was never a magic pill to cover all marketing bases. I still believe that (and I make sure all my clients understand my thoughts on this also – it makes for a good business relationship).

Somewhere, early on, keen online marketing companies and social media marketing educators decided to make social media marketing a hard to understand, and difficult to do type of business.

It’s not. It’s marketing – just like T.V. , radio, print, billboards, flyers…. It can be baffling and complex if you want to buy into all the spin about analytics, metrics, click through rates, yada, yada, yada. Most of it friends – is bullshit – at least to me.

The only way to accurately measure if social media marketing is having a positive impact and success in your business is if you see it contributing to your business in any way – Sales, traffic, raving fans, increased profit etc. Don’t let anybody tell you different.

Marketing still comes in many different shapes and sizes. Social media marketing adds to the effectiveness of branding your business and what it offers – Just never put all your marketing efforts in one basket – Your business is unique and deserves to be marketed in as many unique ways as possible to an ever changing consumer.
